Rally to Restore Bike Lane in Bridgeport

Rally to Restore Bike Lane in Bridgeport

  • Meet under the train viaduct north of Archer & Halsted (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join Better Streets Chicago and community leaders at 6:45 pm on Wednesday, December 29 to demand safer streets and equitable development from our leaders and city agencies.

Better Streets Chicago, Bridgeport Alliance, 11th Ward IPO, and other community leaders will meet under the viaduct at 2451 S. Halsted St. to demand that the northbound bike lane be restored and improved with a durable barrier.

Why are we rallying?

Community members are concerned that the northbound bike lane beneath the train viaduct at 2451 S Halsted St has been removed to accommodate a turn lane for a new Amazon warehouse. This is the same warehouse that many folks in the Bridgeport community had fought against due to road safety and environmental concerns.

Now those concerns have been validated, as CDOT has removed the bike lane under an already dangerous and narrow viaduct and replaced it with sharrows. This change comes only a couple of weeks after 16 year old Jose Velásquez was killed just a mile away by a turning truck driver in an area with no bike infrastructure.

CDOT's removal of this bike lane was unannounced and has created dangerous conditions that puts lives at risk. They have blood on their hands. Your attendance at our rally will show our leaders and city agencies that the people of Chicago demand the creation of safer streets and equitable development.

Rally Information

  • Wednesday, December 29th

  • 6:45pm

  • Meet us under the viaduct at 2451 S. Halsted St.
