Tell Springfield to fix and fund public transit NOW.

Since 2020, our transit systems have been struggling, and riders have been left behind and their frustrations ignored. And our agencies have been resistant to change, and unwilling to work together to solve problems and plan for the future.

But things are about to get far worse if Springfield doesn’t take action by May 31st to save public transit.

Later this year, Federal COVID relief funds for transit agencies are set to expire, leaving CTA, Pace and Metra facing a $770 million fiscal cliff. This would mean 40% service cuts across the board.

CTA could be forced to eliminate 74 entire bus routes, Metra would have to cut all early morning and late evening service and only come hourly during rush hour, and Pace would be forced to eliminate all weekend service and move to 30 and 60 minute waits.

We’re fighting for legislation that would unify our transit agencies and hold them accountable. And we’re fighting for $1.5 billion in annual funding – so we can not only save public transit, but ensure it thrives for generations to come.

And we need YOU to get in the fight with us.

Your legislator needs to hear that YOU want them to fix and fund public transit by May 31st.

Lawmakers have introduced SB2111 and HB3438–monumental legislation that takes long-overdue steps to ensure transit agencies deliver a coordinated, cost-efficient regional transit service so that Illinoisans have access to safe, reliable, and affordable transit for generations to come. The monumental reforms in SB2111 and HB3438 will improve safety and rider experience, better integrate service across Metra, Pace, and the CTA, including one fare to ride the whole system, and increase the frequency and speed of service across the region.

The legislature must pass these reforms and pair them with a $1.5 billion investment in transit by midnight on Saturday, May 31 to improve economic mobility, access to healthcare, and the climate benefits that come with a strong public transit system.
